Problems when update iPhone 3G, 3GS firmware 3.x/4.0/4.0.1 to 4.2.1

  After you downgrade “iPhone OS” you, there may be times when you want to change the “iPhone OS” you to the latest version of iTunes. Before you can update your iPhone OS to version 4.2.1, the first thing you should update your iPhone OS to version 4.1. This is the trick. If you have not saved your iPhone firmware version 4.1, please download it first:
1. Only for iPhone users who currently still holds the iPhone on version 4.0.1 or older version, and want to update to version 4.2.1.
2. Connect the iPhone to the computer.
3. Open iTunes.

4. Make your iPhone into “DFU mode”, until the image appears in iTunes like this:

5. Press Shift + Restore (Windows) or alt + Restore (Mac).
6. Find iPhone firmware *ipsw file, click “Open”.

7. If a message window pops up in iTunes, select “Restore”.
8. Wait until the installation complete.
9. . After the message “error occurred (1015)” on iTunes, click OK, then click OK again.

10. Now open “TinyUmbrella (4.1.6)” to activate your iPhone. If the computer is your first time using “TinyUmbrella”, right click on “TinyUmbrella” - “Run as administrator” - “Allow access”.
11. After that, click “Kick Device Out of Recovery”, then “Start TSS Server”. iTunes will automatically shut down, let it go, just keep your iPhone.
12. After the “slide for emergency” etc. on your iPhone, click “Stop TSS Server”, then “Exit”.
13. Disconnect the iPhone USB cable from the computer, then connect it again.
14. Open iTunes. Up here you have successfully activated your iPhone is still on OS version 4.1.

19. Open “TinyUmbrella 4.21.08”.
20. Click “iPhone”, click “Exit Recovery”, then click “Start TSS Server”.

22. Go back to iTunes.
